Amazon Expiration Date Guide

Why Product Expiration Date Labels?

Expiration date label rules exist to protect consumers. In turn, this also protects Amazon. FBA expiration date labels prevent consumers from purchasing expired products. Which products qualify for an expiration date? What are the proper methods to label a product? This post explains requirements for an Amazon expiration date.

What Products Need an Amazon Expiration Date?

The golden rule for Amazon expiration date labels is simple. Any product that goes in the body or on the body gets a label. This applies to humans. Also, it applies to animals. Again, any product consumed on the body gets a label. In addition, any product that goes in the body receives a label. Moreover, Amazon requires labels for product bundles which include one perishable item. Lastly, they want labels on cleaning supplies. Specifically, that includes disinfectant wipes, cleaning sprays, solutions, and detergents. Ultimately, Seller Central will inform you when labels are needed. So pay attention as you build your shipments.

Expiration Date Requirements for FBA

Here are Amazon expiration date label requirements. Firstly, you cannot send in a product which expires in 30 days. The label does not change the fact that the product expired. Amazon wants customers to receive quality goods. Secondly, meltable products receive special rules. Click here to learn more on meltable products. Thirdly, ensure the product date equals more than 90 days plus the number of servings in the product. Let’s recap that:

  1. Final Expiration Date: 90 Days + Number of Servings total in the product.
  2. Review the Chart for specific product date requirements. Some items need more than 90 days.

FBA Expiration Date Formats

If you are bundling items, label the outter bag with the expiration date. Also, label the products inside the bag. Make sure to cover any old dates labeled on the product. Ensure the labels are listed accordingly – MM-DD-YYYY or MM-YYYY. As a best practice, use font size 36. Your expiration date label can be coupled onto your sold as set label as well.
