Long Term Storage, Oversize Storage & Dangerous Goods

FBA Long Term Storage

Has your storage sat at Amazon for more than 365 days? If so, you are in trouble! Your regular storage fees still apply. Meanwhile, Amazon starts charging additional ‘long-term storage’ fees. Specifically, Amazon assesses long-term storage fees using an inventory snapshot on the 15th of each month. FBA calculates inventory age on a FIFO basis. What is FIFO? Chiefly, FIFO is a ‘first-in first out’ system used across the entire FBA fulfillment network. For example, FBA will still deduct a unit from the oldest inventory in stock, if a fulfillment center associate picks and ships a unit that arrived in the fulfillment center recently.

How Much are FBA Long Term Storage Rates?

In short, here’s how Amazon executes long term storage:

Time of chargeMonthly, typically between the 18th and 22nd day of each month
Fee structureUsually, per unit stored. However, the rate is based on unit’s volume or fee per unit – whichever is greater.
Amount$6.90 per cubic foot or $0.15 per unit, whichever is greater

How to Find my FBA Long Term Storage Rates?

Finding the historical storage data on your FBA inventory is simple. Firstly, Inside Seller Central, click on upper right corner menu icon. Afterwards, select the Inventory Tab. Thirdly, under the inventory tab, select Inventory Planning. This generates your IPI dashboard. Finally, next to the Dashboard tab, select Manage My Inventory Health. A list of SKU’s populates. Overall, you can review each SKU’s storage statistics here.

FBA Oversize Storage

Amazon outlines clear definitions of oversized products. In fact, take a look here to read from Amazon’s website directly. Actually, wait – don’t do that. We already read it for you! In short, Amazon bundles their categories into a Product Size Tier, as seen below.

How to Determine FBA Product Size?

  1. Initially, find the volume and dimensions of the item.
  2. Afterwards, measure the unit weight
  3. Lastly, use the values & chart below to determine the product size tier.

Find the row in the table below with your product’s measurements. However, do not exceed the weight or the dimensions of your item.

Finally, you know product size. Consequently, you can calculate storage rates. In detail, here’s a table to review oversize product storage rates:

Storage MonthStandard-SizeOversize
January – September $0.75 per cubic foot $0.48 per cubic foot
October – December $2.40 per cubic foot $1.20 per cubic foot

January – September$0.99 per cubic foot$0.78 per cubic foot
October – December$3.63 per cubic foot$2.43 per cubic foot

Like others, FBA Dangerous Goods receive different storage rates than standard sized products. There is higher risk and therefore a higher liability for Amazon to store the goods. To illustrate, take a look at the rates below and read more here about FBA Dangerous Goods.
